Bellevue City Hall East Garage

This project was built on the 5th floor of the new parking garage for Bellevue City Hall. All the products needed to be lifted to the roof level. Here Bark King is blowing 450 cubic yards of Growing Medium to the roof level.
Products that could not be blown onto the roof were hoisted by extended reach forklift.
The roof was first covered with a waterproofing membrane then a drain mat was installed, next was 12 inch high custom manufactured stainless steel edging, then irrigation, and ballast rock. The ballast rock was more than 1,500 bags each weighing 50 pounds that were carried on the shoulders of our crew from the forklift to the final location.
Plants were sourced from 5 separate nurseries and carefully planted.
Aluminum planters custom built by Pot Inc. were placed by the general contractor, Lydig, then filled with 100 cubic yards of lightweight soil blown into place by Cedar Grove Topsoils. The planters were designed with a drip irrigation system.
Planting continued after the wood deck had been constructed by Lydig.

The final planting shows bands of plants interspersed with Mexican Beach Pebbles.
The angular planting spaces are juxtaposed with angular planting elements.
Epimedium plants set flowers in late September.
Mahonia repens will fill out to cover the bed area.
Helleborus plants will provide a splash of color throughout the winter.
The deck provides a comfortable outdoor gathering area.

This project was more than 11,000 square feet of intensive green roof on the fifth floor of a new garage addition to the Bellevue City Hall building. The main structural work was done by Lydig Construction Company, Inc. who worked closely with Pacific Earth Works to accomplish a seamless installation of the new addition. This project was complicated in that approximately 450 cubic yards of growing medium was blown up to the fifth floor by Bark King Blower Truck Service with their high powered rock truck. In addition to the soil another 1500 bags weighing 50 lbs. each of Mexican Beach Pebbles were hand placed onto the roof. During all construction the main City Hall building remained open to add to the technicality of this installation.
